Kids residing in Minnesota who are aged 16 years and above can look forward to some ice fishing this coming February 13 to 15. Some parks over at Minnesota are offering Take-A-Kid Ice Fishing weekend clinics which offer an indoor presentation on ice fishing safety, gear and techniques. They are being offered at Lake Bronson near Hallock, Lake Carlos near Alexandria and Bear Head Lake near Ely.

It is going to be one wild weekend over at the Montana Expopark Four Seasons Arena as the Great Rockies Sports Show gets underway. People can get to know a lot of the various outdoor activities which include fly fishing, hunting and bears for the said event. The Great Bear Show is the highlight of the even where outdoor lovers can get to know more about this fierce mammal which should be a familiar site each time they go into the wild.

The Nantahala Outdoor Center will be holding a special Fly Fishing School for beginners at the NOC’s Nantahala River campus. J.E.B. Hall will be heading the event as aspiring anglers are given three dates to choose from: March 13-14, April 10-11 and May 8-9. A fee of $375 which included guide service, transportation, meals and lodging will be charged.

McKinney Park’s annual Trout Fishing Derby gets underway this Saturday in the East Pavillion at Towne Lake where more than 4,700 fish will be put in the lake. This event is open to the public where prizes and trophies will be awarded in various categories. The derby is free for kids. Those 17 and older must pay $3 and have a fresh water fishing license.

The Lake Elmo Lions Club annual ice fishing contest gets underway on February 7, Sunday at Lake Jane in Lake Elmo where guests can get the chance do some ice fishing and win some prizes as well. Tickets are being sold at $4 for early buyers while the regular rate on the day itself will be $5. The event will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The second annual Pack 98 Fishing Derby got underway which was actually a family event for returnees and first-timers. Boy Scouts and families endured in fun activities which included an ice-hole drilling competition and of course fishing at the end of the day.

As in anything we do, starting with the basics is always a good foundation towards being a good angler. And for the Port St. Lucie Police Athletic League, fishing clinics are a good way to kick it all off. These clinics, taught by volunteers from the Savanna Club Fishing Club, teach knot tying, patience, and the tricks of the trade needed to catch fish. The first class was held last January 30 and the next is scheduled for March 13 at 8 a.m.

As the warm climate on waters start to climb, trout anglers are now getting vast improvement for their catch. Trout catches are growing by the day over at Pine Island using a variety of methods with larger fish coming from the Sound in areas between Blind Pass and the power lines on the east side of Sanibel and across the Sound between Flamingo Bay and Chino Island.
