As the number of Southern Blue Fin Tuna continues to reach critical levels, a major international meeting has called for fishing communities to follow a certain quota for their catch. Australia for one, has been forced to cut its Blue Fin tuna catch by 30% which as you would expect is drawing varied reactions, stating that it may take fishing groups some time to adjust to the new quota. Well, it is either this or say goodbye to this valuable fish which has been a great source of income for the fishing companies.

Storms and continuous rain can really ruin the fishing trips of most people but then again, safety comes first. That is the case for Lake Waco which has closed down parks and boat ramps due to the continuous rains which may raise the water level and add more debris and threats to inhabitants. Partial closures include Midway Park boat ramp, Speegleville boat ramp and the Reynolds Creek Bank Fishing Area and Boat Ramp. But as soon as the rains stop and the water goes back to manageable levels, expect everything to return to normal.

In a move to help re-populate the dilapidating number of fishes along the shores of Florida and North Carolina, there is a fishing ban being proposed from 90 feet to 200 miles offshore. Bottom fishing could be banned for an entire year which includes the likes of snappers, groupers, grunts and amber jacks. This proposal is expected to draw some objections considering that deep sea fishing is a form of livelihood for many people. A hearing for the said ban will be held at Port Canaveral on November 11.

Various activities are known to be made for good causes and as far as the Red River Walleye Challenge is concerned, their cause is to aid in the breast cancer research. And thanks to the tournament that they held recently, they were able to put up $4,000 from participants last October 4. Males and females went out to try and catch the biggest fishes that they could where cash prizes were handed out as well to the top five finishers while the others got trophies and other prizes. The tournament was scheduled a bit late but drew great participants which will hopefully help contribute in funding the research for the fight against breast cancer.
