The intent is good but sometimes a cut in fees for fishers may not be always good. In fact, it could even lead to more trouble such as perhaps fishing more than they can handle for the duration that the fees have been slashed. This is the case over at Fiji which has slashed their fishing fees from $1,000 to $526 in light of the economic crisis. But while that almost half-the-price slash seems something to cheer for, the number of fishes may not be sufficient. As we know, fish breeding has become an issue and this is certainly going to be another issue up for debate soon.

Over the past 50 years, 90 percent of large fish in the world’s oceans have disappeared. We are overfishing ourselves to death. It’s bad for the environment, bad for species, bad for jobs, and bad for the economy, yet still we keep doing it.
