All fishermen are preparing for another 8 month season this Monday as most anglers head on over to various Missouri lakes such as Bennett Spring State Park, Roaring River State Park and Montauk State Park for the Trout Fishing Season. An estimated 8,000 people are expected to buy trout tags even as most of the parks prepare to welcome them with improved facilities and buildings in time for the start of Trout season!

To help anglers make it to the “Last Chance” Ice Fishing contest set for Saturday over at Fish Lake, organizers have plowed ample space to make sure that incoming participants will not have issues reaching the site and get some parking as well.
The contest is slated to kick off at noon to 3 p.m. where entry fees for adults are set at $25 and $5 for children aged 12 or younger. The event is sponsored by Cloquet Kiwanis Club.

Anglers over at the Far North have announced the Snapper Bonanza Contest, a substitute fishing contest for the Ninety Mile Beach Snapper Classic which was shelved at least up to next year. The Snapper Bonanza Contest will be held from March 22 to 26. Tickets are available for $100 each. Cash and prizes up to $5,000 are to be given away for the said event.

The 12th Annual American Legion Community Fishing contest has gotten underway over at Fish Hook Lake where about 1,750 anglers were on hand. The participants may have dwindled compared to past years but the event was still a success. There was approximately 20 to 22 inches of ice in most places. The first fish was registered and weighed at 1:02 p.m.

Kids residing in Minnesota who are aged 16 years and above can look forward to some ice fishing this coming February 13 to 15. Some parks over at Minnesota are offering Take-A-Kid Ice Fishing weekend clinics which offer an indoor presentation on ice fishing safety, gear and techniques. They are being offered at Lake Bronson near Hallock, Lake Carlos near Alexandria and Bear Head Lake near Ely.

The Lake Elmo Lions Club annual ice fishing contest gets underway on February 7, Sunday at Lake Jane in Lake Elmo where guests can get the chance do some ice fishing and win some prizes as well. Tickets are being sold at $4 for early buyers while the regular rate on the day itself will be $5. The event will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Trout catches are growing by the day over at Pine Island using a variety of methods with larger fish coming from the Sound in areas between Blind Pass and the power lines on the east side of Sanibel and across the Sound between Flamingo Bay and Chino Island.

Over 4,400 participants came out for the annual Devils Lake Ice Fishing tournament thanks mainly to the good weather. Anglers from Washington and Nevada came in droves where only 38 fishes were caught. However, this was enough to fill the top 5 places in each category where more than $170,000 in prizes were awarded.
